Every field of interest creates its own unique definitions of a few common words.
action words -- the 16 verbs.
affixes -- prefix and suffixes. un-, -ed, -er, -ing, -ly, -s, -'s.
auxiliary words -- the words : "will" causes future tense. "may" gives possibility or permission.
complex words -- compound words made from Basic words where the sense is clear from
the Basic words. Ex. blackberry is OK ; butterfly is not.
derivatives -- spellings created by allowed prefix and suffixes (affix) and complex words.
directions/directives -- the 20 prepositions of Basic
fictions -- inanimate nouns, ideas that may be different to different people.
full English -- Standard English
first-level addenda -- 350 words to help those who have learned Basic to move towards full English.
general special words -- 100 words of a general field : Science, Commerce, Verse, Social Science.
A learner is expected to know one General subject and one Specialty subject.
international words -- words recognized round the earth that can be assumed to be understood by Basic learners and readers.
Examples : menu, taxi
joining words -- conjuctions such as : and, or,
learner -- student
names of things -- nouns. The word that goes with a thing.
next step -- add 50 verbs made from things after the 1,500 word level.
operators -- action words (verbs) or action words plus directions (prepositions).
panoptic -- able to be seen all at once
picturable words -- tangible things that a clear to everyone.
qualities -- adjectives that describe nouns
special wordlists -- 150 words for a General field and Specialty of interest to the learner.
specialty words -- 50 words of a specialty within a General field : ex. geology, economics, bible.
supplement words -- 150 words of foods, plants and animals to aid communication after learning Basic.
the 850 -- the words that are core to Basic English
things -- nouns. Basic is mostly names of real things.
verbs -- 16 words for actions : [list]
word magic -- the abuse of vocabulary. It has several meanings. See "The Meaning of Meaning".
(1) making use of words with an emotional impact instead of for concrete meanings.
(2) "spin", use of words so as to give a feeling different from the true sense.
(3) word frequency analysis - where frequent usage alone does not contribute to importance or understanding.
