flood 1 /flʌd/ ●●○ verb

COVER WITH WATER 被水淹 [intransitive, transitive] to cover a place with water, or to become covered with water (被)淹没
Towns and cities all over the country have been flooded.
全国各地的城镇都被淹没了。
The houses down by the river flood quite regularly.
沿河的房屋常遭水淹。

flood 2 ●●○ noun  
[countable, uncountable] a very large amount of water that covers an area that is usually dry 洪水,水灾
The village was cut off by floods.
那个村子因洪水而与外界中断了联系。
the worst floods for over fifty years
五十多年来最严重的水灾


1. wake  /weɪk/ (also wake up) verb (past tense woke /wəʊk/, past participle woken /ˈwəʊkən/) [intransitive, transitive]  
to stop sleeping, or to make someone stop sleeping 睡醒,醒来;唤醒,弄醒
  When she woke, the sun was streaming through the windows.
她醒来时,阳光泻入窗内。
Try not to wake the baby.
尽量不要吵醒宝宝。

2. wake up (phrasal verb)
a) to stop sleeping, or to make someone stop sleeping 醒;叫醒
James usually wakes up early.
詹姆斯通常醒得早。
wake somebody ↔ up
I’ll wake you up when it’s time to leave.
到走的时候我会叫醒你
cloth /klɒθ/ ●●○ S3 noun  
1  [uncountable] material used for making things such as clothes 布料
cotton/woollen/silk etc cloth
a dress of the finest silk cloth
最上乘的真丝面料做的连衣裙
2  [countable] a piece of cloth used for a particular purpose 〔作某一用途的〕一块布
She mopped her face with a wet cloth.
她用一块湿布擦脸。

hang 1 /hæŋ/ ●●● S1 W2 verb (past tense and past participle hung /hʌŋ/)

a) [transitive always + adverb/preposition] (also hang up) to put something in a position so that the top part is fixed or supported, and the bottom part is free to move and does not touch the ground 悬挂
Philip hung his coat on a hook behind the door.
菲利普把自己的大衣挂在门后的钩子上。
She hung the sheets on the washing line.
她把床单晾在晒衣绳上。
dry  ●●● S2 W3 verb (dried, drying, dries) [intransitive, transitive]  
1  to make something dry, or to become dry (使)变干,把…弄干 Mrs Brown hung the washing on the line to dry.
布朗太太把洗好的衣服挂在绳上晾干。
He was drying his hair with a towel.
他在用毛巾擦干头发。
Mary dried her hands.
玛丽把手擦干。

look, appear, seem
Look is a linking verb in meanings 3 and 4. This type of verb links the subject of the sentence with an adjective or noun:
· It looks windy outside.
· You look beautiful.
· She made him look a fool.
