That year he re-teamed with his Dazed and Confused director Richard Linklat-er for the dark comedy Bernie. And he was the violent hit man in Killer Joe. He also had a recurring role as a baseball scout in the R-rated HBO comedy Eastbound & Down.
All those performances are in stark contrast to his previous frivolous efforts - he was most notably ridiculed in 2009's poorly received Ghosts of Girlfriends Past.
"I don't feel like I had a clear-cut moment when I left the other stuff behind,Ray Ban Outlet," McConaughey said. "I was being offered lots of action movies and romantic comedies and I just started saying 'no' to them.
"I had a great time doing all those things and made some money, but I felt like I wasn't growing anymore. So I started taking on things that were scaring me, and I realized that was the feeling I wanted."
