  Annual Dance Clothing Rules

  The student committee for the annual dance has made the following rules about clothing. All boys are asked to wear a classic dress shirt with a tie and jacket. They do not have to wear a suit. A sports jacket is fine. Please do not wear sports shoes. Girls are asked to dress in casual skirts or slacks and blouses. A nice dress is also appropriate. Remember, we have invited our parents and people from our local government. We would like to show them how mature we are.

  Clothing design

  Originally people covered themselves in comfortable clothing, much of it to protect them from weather. For instance, in hot climates people preferred to wear loose clothing that would cool their bodies by free movement. In colder climates it was necessary to wear heavy clothing, very often made from the fur of animals that were hunted for food. As civilization advanced, clothing was often designed for other reasons, such as to make people feel more comfortable or more appropriately dressed for the kind of activity they did. New materials were also developed to make clothes and shoes, for example.
