Many language creators use the simpler language elements from the Germanic languages with the grammatical features (tense, plural, gender) regularized. Most want to avoid claims of nationalism and create a vocabulary that contains words with roots in many languages. This results in a language in which everybody finds mostly unrecognizable words and endings. Ogden chose to take the most widely used, regular world languages and simplified it within the constraints of that language so that a large number of people will already understand the language. The cost to learn the language is approximately the same with the advantage of immediate usability in the real world.
