Definition

Punctuation is the name for the special marks used to separate phrases, clauses, and sentences. There are many punctuation marks and many rules for using them. The chart on the Examples Page gives the general rules for four common punctuation marks: commas (,), periods (.), question marks (?), and exclamation marks (!).
