COSHOCTON A sheriff's deputy will not face criminal charges after fatally shooting a suspect during a traffic pursuit,beats headphones.
A grand jury on Friday heard testimony surrounding the death of 20-year-old David Wayne 'D.J.' Stahl but chose not to indict,beats by dre, according to a news release from Coshocton County Prosecutor Jason Given.
The release also named for the first time the deputy who fired the fatal shot: Deputy Ernest Snyder. Snyder was placed on paid administrative leave after the incident, but it is unclear when he might return to duty.
Officials with the Coshocton County Sheriff's Office did not respond to multiple calls and emails seeking comment Friday afternoon.
Stahl died March 27 after a traffic chase that started in New Concord. Officials have so far been tight-lipped about what happened, but the release provides a few more details.
The chase started the night of March 26 when a New Concord police officer attempted to pull over Stahl for multiple traffic violations. That officer pursued Stahl to the Muskingum-Coshocton county line, where the chase was picked up by three Coshocton County sheriff's deputies in two cruisers, the release states.
Stahl, in a red and brown pickup truck, was driving west on U.S. 36,cheap beats by dre, according to the release. The deputies again tried to get him to pull over, at which point he intentionally rammed one of the cruisers.
Stahl was driving 'at a high rate of speed,' and the impact sent the cruiser head-on into a concrete median, the release states, totaling the cruiser and injuring the deputy driving.
In the second cruiser,dr dre headphones, Deputy Ernest Snyder and his partner performed a 'controlled termination of the pursuit,' the release states. There is no explanation as to what that might entail, but Stahl's pickup ended up off the road, and Snyder and his partner attempted to approach him on foot.
Stahl then drove toward Snyder's partner,monster headphones, and the partner 'barely avoided being struck by the suspect's vehicle,' the release states.
Stahl then turned the truck on Snyder, who, 'with no ability to safely avoid the oncoming suspect's vehicle, discharged his service weapon, fatally wounding the suspect,beats headphones Earth Briefs_0 745,' the release states.
From there, Stahl was taken to Coshocton Hospital and then later to Grant Medical Center in Columbus, where he died, according to an autopsy report released Thursday by Franklin County Coroner Jan Gorniak.
The cause of death was listed as a gunshot wound to the head, but Stahl also suffered gunshot wounds to the right shoulder and right forearm.
Stahl's sister, April Stahl, was in the courthouse with her grandfather when the grand jury convened. When she left about 1 p.m. Friday, officials told her a decision had not yet been made and they would have to wait until Monday, she said.
About 4 p.m., she learned through the Coshocton Tribune website that the jury chose not to indict, she said.
'I am angry. I'm upset,beats by dre Ala. Rep. Jo Bonner to resign from Congress 412, and I believe they're liars,' she said.
April Stahl disagrees with the grand jury's decision, but the matter isn't settled, she said.
She doesn't believe officials' reports of what happened that night, she said.
'I know we're looking into a wrongful death lawsuit,' she said. |
