If you're planning to take Mom out to dinner Sunday, you might want to think twice.
According to the National Restaurant Association, Mother's Day is second only to birthdays as the most popular occasion for eating out.
When you consider the fact that birthdays are stretched over 365 days a year and Mother's Day is just 24 hours long, it should give you a sense of the atmosphere in restaurants pretty much everywhere.
Here's a realistic picture: Long, uncomfortable waits for tables, slow service, cold food and restless overstimulated little kids running everywhere.
While Mom might like a day off in the kitchen, it could be more fun and relaxing for her in the comfort of her own home, with her feet up,dr dre headphones, lounging around with a cold beverage. That way young children can be more easily entertained, the servers might be at least slightly less overwhelmed, and kids and/or dads might even learn a little about the kitchen.
There are plenty of simple, super recipes that dads and/or kids could try. We tried to come up with some that together could constitute a delectable homemade meal.
Of course, you don't want to hand a chef's knife to a 7-year-old and ask him/her to chop the fresh dill, but he or she should be capable of fetching, measuring and combining ingredients. Supervised preteens could find their way around the stove and a skillet. Little ones could help stir up a pitcher of instant lemonade.
If all else fails and Mom has to get involved in the process, a chance to do something together with her family could be all the gift she wants.
