CPU looks fine, the retail one overclocks really well, but would I would go with the ASUS A7N8X Deluxe mobo,I built mine around that mobo, (Toms Hardware voted this the top AMD mobo of 2003) as for sound card? I ran with the onboard sound for months, its really not that bad, I only disabled it to get more voices availablein UT2003, reverting to my Sonic Fury sound card, plus, it reduces the cpu overhead slightly. This is not amajor achievement because stock speed is 2.2Ghz. I completely agree with Astro_G here. I don't just think that it's Tom's Hardware to blame on this, though. I think that any review of a cuttingedge computer game deserves a mention of how it runs on slower systems. I don't have an amd system, so I am not an expert here. But I do know that you HAVE to use a heatsink at ALL TIMES with this processor. They burn extremely hot, and the smoke could have been residue on the processor (optimistically) or the magic smoke escaping from the CPU itself (likely).
